there's a difference between having a submarine
that is nuclear powered and a conventonal submarine or surface ship that has nuclear weapons. A nuclear powered sub can stay underwater indefinatly which is a plus. A conventional sub has to surface and pollute the atmosphere running engines to charge batteries that eventuatly have to be disposed of. And actually a nuclear powered Attack sub probably doesn't even have nuclear weapons aboard. An Attack sub hunts the enemy subs that do. And a whole lot more that keeps you safe. FYI

Oh I agree...but just try getting a pol to cut the military budget - Repubs have always equated military strength with a big military budget and the threat of them using their mantra of Dem's being soft on US defense is effective. Not long ago, as you might remember, Repubs revived their old saw when Pres Obama said he would TALK with our enemies - not agree with them, not give into their demands, just TALK. That is a no no with Repubs - their preferred method is to threaten those who don't agree with us. I know you remember the "you're either with us or with the enemy" crap from The Decider/his admin...fear worked on many and they looked under their beds/around every corner for a terrorist.

I take both pol parties to task for allowing our military budget to reach 40% of our total fed budget; I especially criticize Repub pols who think that it is o.k. WHILE feeling no responsibility to US citizens for decent health care coverage and fight against it tooth and nail every chance they get...For Repubs, military spending good - social programs for citizens bad.
