Good point...US troops are still protecting Germany and France - from WHAT? Pres Eisenhower was right, "Beware of the military complex".
Mainly for political reasons we devote 40% of our fed budget to the war machine - much of which, btw, has outdated systems given how todays wars are/will be fought. It stands to reason if we can afford this, we surely can afford to take care of our OWN at home.
When a country spends 40% of their budget on the war machine they have to look for wars to use them - and we do, again and again.

I agree .. ALL the congress critters/senators/presidents are TOO afraid of being called what they are actually all ready called ...Obama this year increased the military budget and yet I have seen on ihub ..the meme - "He is gutting the military" .. (brilliant just brilliant NOT) .. .. the way I see it is this - WHEN & IF the people joined together (dem/repub) the politician would listen and begin to get serious about cutting 'defense spending' .. HOWEVER, as long as they are called Traitor ! Cowardly ! Soft on defense! etc.. etc....there will never be progress on this most obvious place to begin. Cutting military spending.

At this particular time .. we do have the 'job factor' to consider..but, There will always be a reason & an excuse, imo.
