Reagan may have been underestimated but then it would be hard not to underestimate him since he came across as the puppet he was. If he had ideas once, by the end of his term he was already in poor mental condition. I still believe that the Bush was more in command then than Reagan was. Reagan sold the package deal that Bush couldn't push. Now little george gets to pick up where the big Shrub got pruned. But don't think that i am picking on Reagan exclusively since ALL recent presidents seem to act for the interests that financed their party's escapades. The FWOD is just one example of undesirable interests exerting influence on our justice system.
I disagree strongly regarding your position on drug senetences. Because it is illegal is not a good enough reason for it being illegal, and no one is cured of or deterred from drug use by jail. If it is society's desire to help people or end addiction it must be addressed. jail does nothing to deal with the problem. And in many cases there is no problem. If one individual enjoys marijuana while another requires xanax or valium, who is doing more harm to their bodies, their minds? Pharmaceuticals damage and can kill, marijuana can't do either; illicit drugs in general have a lower mortality rate associated with their use than prescribed pharmaceuticals. Stress kills; being happy extends one's life. It seems senseless to jail people for using something which can't kill them, reduces stress, and makes you feel happy.
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Does that sound familiar?
Jail is not a happy place.
