If you get a CERTIFIED check, then the money is yours, especially if the bank OFFICIALS at their headquarters insist it is. Once they issue a certified check and it clears somewhere else.....they're screwed.
At least that's my understanding. In this particular case the bank insisted he could keep the $800 in cash and HONEST JOHN insisted that they take it back.
Probably why the headlines of the newspapers called him HONEST JOHN
