<you can see where this is going, i'm sure...> 1929 my father was a freshmen at Penn State. In 1930 he had to drop out because his father's electrical contracting company went bankrupt. During the same time many other college students were backing their bags and going home for similar reasons.
Upshot, these students ended up fighting to get jobs in a collapsing job market.
BTW, my dad never did get back to college and spent 5 years working the graveyard shift at a Gulf Oil refinery at 25 dollars a week, but then he saw an ad for a job at an electrical contractors and on applying the boss said hey i competed with your father he was aces, your hired.
and my father was to become it's VP and the company became the 5th largest electrical contractor in the U.S. So life goes on, you just never know what is next. max
