I don't think it's a problem we can solve in Afghanistan as close to 80% are illiterate and are easily led by rumor and their various tribal factions. We can do to them what we are doing in Pakistan for far less cost on blood and treasure.
Iraq was truly a strategic blunder as Iran has been emboldened and the Shites have been given a gift of far closer relations with Iraq than they could have ever hoped. It truly is a waste of money there as Kirkuk has not been solved after five years with the Kurds and the Sunni are still on the outs. If the recent elections are overturned violence will come back - it's not looking good but at least we've pulled back our troops and they are doing less and less. 2011 and the end of combat troops there can't come soon enough
