Bank balance sheet "margin calls" as the every 6 month balance sheet submission looms ahead for the Nippones banks (end of September). They are HUGE, involuntary holders of stocks (holding the bag).

They also have been left hlding the bag on owning huge blocks of U.S. treasury paper(only tursted asset up to now).

If bonds and stocks in the USA start to trend down together, it may well show us the "final capitulation" is at hand for the Japanese bubble.

A model for our future?

I would think it is due to some repatriation of assets from abroad to shore up the banks, but that is just a guess.
