Bulldzr .. I don't know one democrat that didn't want what you stated "single payer or at the LEAST the public option" AND you are right ! it's just a start .. that's ALL. We didn't have the votes because WE have what is called "a big tent party" and that means that the democrats in Nebraska voted for 'what's his name'? is it ben nelson ? .. and Montana votes for Max Baucus .. and that's the same story in many regions throughout the US. Too many 'progressive' democrats do not remember that those same people voted for Obama too along with them .. they have different expectations from him AND the people they voted in WANT to do what their districts what them to do...so.... it makes for a lot of deal making to get anything passed. Heck I learned more about the legislative process since 2009 than all the years of my life and remember a lot of people always say "Democrats have a way of shooting themselves in the feet" .. ;) ...and that's because our party is NOT only one caucus but a good strong two caucuses ... bluedogs AND progressive, .......it's too bad more people do not remember that.. I don't know what they wanted Obama to do .. the president of the US is not a dictator ..AND regardless of what the 'right' says Obama is NOT a Chicago 'mobster' who takes people in the back room and has Rahm & Gibbs beat the crap out of them ...NO ........they make the deals. AND truly that is what successful legislation is about . .. Making the Deals .. Obama stated this in 2004 - - "A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, "Huh. It works. It makes sense." - ANd he has some experience with it as a Illinois state senator ....
I agree with you - the cynicism is oppressive and extremely nihilistic .. it can tear you down IF you let it.
