If the company really has to raise money under these circumstances, existing shareholders will be plowed under. I've seen this happen before, and the result is almost always the same. You don't have to believe it, but I think you should be prepared for it.
BTW, the number of shares is completely irrelevant. Bankruptcy, by the way, isn't that unlikely. If the money isn't there, it might be the only way they get recapitalized.
