Re Envion:

I am sorry for the delay in responding to your email but I wanted to make certain that we were able to provide you with the most accurate information. I was also surprised by your statement that Envion claimed to be recycling Montgomery County plastics especially since they are not a part of any County program, are not recycling any of the County’s plastic stock at this time, and have not made the County aware of any such statements or intentions. In case you were not aware, none of the plastics collected in Montgomery County go into any landfill. The County has a state of the art recycling facility located at the Shady Grove Transfer Station, which processes all of the plastic collected within the County. Furthermore, based on the information that we have been provided from Envion, the County was not aware of the claims made by Envion with respect to either the plastic processing or the installation of additional units.

Since the County was not aware of these claims, I contacted Envion to verify if these statements have in-fact been made. According to Envion, an article entitled “Envion opens plastics-to-oil recycling unit near Washington” appeared in the September 17, 2009 edition of PlasticNews.com. Envion has further informed me that the information in the article was taken out of context and was not completely accurate with what was apparently said during the interview. The following, while not an exact replica of the information that you have identified, appears to be similar to the information you have provided. The relevant section appears in the middle of the article and states:

“Han now expects that, a year from now, between 75 and 100 EOG units will be in operation around the world, including between 20 and 30 in the U.S.” ......... “Each unit carries a $7 million construction and installation cost, along with a $200,000 annual service fee, officials said.” …… and “The unit in Derwood represents a $5 million investment. it’s supplied with plastic waste by Montgomery County, which includes Derwood.”

The above statements as well as the information in the article reflect the views and opinions of Envion and not those of Montgomery County.

Since Envion is not part of any County program, we do not have any of the specifics regarding Envion’s future intensions or processes. If you are interested in additional information about Envion or their oil generator, you may want to contact Andres Fossas, Associate Director, Research and Strategy for Envion, LLC. His email address is xxxxx

Should you have additional questions or concerns regarding the County’s view, opinions, services, or operations, or the issue that effects the County and or Envion please feel free to contact me directly,

Respectfully,
