Do you mean the real REGSHO list, or the relatively new lists that show daily volume and daily short volume? If the system is working properly, the way richsean's market maker post describes, the total short volume in a given day will usually be about half the total volume for the day (on average). Market makers sell short first and then try to cover, either immediately by going high bid, or by the end of the day so they go home flat. I think there are about 20 people on IHub who understand this, but 15 of them lie about it to ensnare those who don't.

I think Shorting should be totally barred from Trading. at least for all stocks below say $5. It is just an artifact that only benefits MMs. They are destroying companies by way of having infinite sellers and few buyers!.
