JB bought a large collection of old tapes because he was the only one who could read them with a 100% accuracy (that is the reason why JBI is sole sourced by NASA.)
He found the catalyst on those proprietary tapes and transfered this asset to JBI.
NASA, MIT and Oil companies is other business. JBI just recovers the information from the tapes and send them back in actual formats.
