Wow r.man.bob.z...
Totally freakin' cool and G help you, I'm about to go into why...
That is a massive dumptruck for private use.. but... I have friend with one that is bigger...
And that is because his privately run business is hauling stone... will fill in the details as these postings progress... but for now...
You would like him... I'll start with this example.
This is his third truck. He bought it used. Decided to rebuild the engine which I believe would have been about $10,000 for parts and labor. He didn't want to waste the money. Bought the tech manual and about $1500 worth of parts. Book said the job would take an experienced mechanic about 46 hours of labor... Okay... you're on.
He took the motor apart and laid it out piece by piece in the order each was removed on the floor of his garage (latest addition to his massive log house includes a three bay garage, the ceiling of which is high enough so he can bring the truck in and fully elevate the bed). Reading the manual, he put it back together.
Took him a total of 48 hours including reading time. I'd say that makes him better than the experienced mechanics the book cited as examples for time frame. :-)
When he finished he took the truck through inspection. They tested his emissions five times... Why???
Because his "old" truck was running cleaner than the specs for the new ones.
Still does.
He is an amazing man... one son (oldest)... two daughters... he is a wonderful father... the second child, his 14 year old daughter follows him around and is a "pest" when it comes to learning the mechanical side of life. He patiently teaches her. She (a percussionist) is into it... bet she'll be quite good at it.
His wife is my real friend... thus the connection... she is sister to the "No-ver"... another long story. ;-)
Ah... and of course I forgot the other reason your dumptruck shot and story made me think of the Magic House couple... when they added on, he bought a used backhoe to dig the "foundation"... made it operable enough to get the job done... needs more work to be truly good and sits on the property (five glorious wooded acres in the lush green hills of NJ).
I love it here.
Thanks for the inspiration!
