sylvester...

Mea culpa. I misunderstood the reference to the lawsuit.

The gist of my post (even though incorrectly based) is still true. The ire of the Saudi's is more of a message to our government than a real threat, at least for now. If our courts were to award the damages and funds were actually confiscated, it would present some very serious problems for us, for sure, as no foreign investor would consider his assets safe in this country. I would assume that the case will be tied up in the courts forever and eventually the Supreme Court would rule in favor of the Saudi's (in our own national interest) if it ever got that far.

All that aside, I support the lawsuit on moral grounds and think anyone (including the Saudi Kingdom and Royal Family) who can be shown to have supported the terrorists involved in 09/11 should have all their US based assets confiscated. Let the Saudi's scream. In my opinion, folks are foolish that think the Saudi's are our friends for any other reason than to get our money for their oil.

Exactly. It is their U.S. assets that are at risk, by a U.S. judge or jury. If the case somehow gets to a jury, they're TOAST! <NG> Therefore a prudent investment allocation decision for them is to decrease U.S. exposure. Hell, remember what happenned to Iranian assets during the hostage crisis in 1979?
