I don't know what they are trying to validate. The machine WORKS as it's an old machine in Japan. BUT they added some magic beans catalyst. I mean i can make my own catalyst consisting of nothing but air and it will work too. Tweak some new stuff to the machine, add a PLACEBO of a catalyst and bingo!
