Why in the world would Pike sink $16m+ into this thing if he didn't know something

If he knew "something", why wouldnt he wait till now or even next week to buy. It seems like the only people who "knew" anything were and still are those who said this one will go down in PPS and also those who said that a wells notice was coming.

What if Pike's $16mm investment was made on behalf and at the specific request of a single investor, or group, ... and has nothing at all to do with his overall money mangement?
