SLPH- Dick Masica, Former Texaco Executive, Joins SulphCo Board

Thursday , December 02, 2004 07:00 ET

SPARKS, Nev., Dec 2, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH), a leader in developing and marketing high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment for the petroleum industry, announced today that Dick Masica, formerly president of Texaco Chemical Inc., has joined the company's board. Masica presently serves as an advisor to SulphCo.

SulphCo has developed patented ultrasound technology to remove sulfur from crude oil that produces more usable oil per barrel. Based on current tests, the company's ultrasound process, which alters the molecular structure of oil, results in additional usable gallons per barrel of crude. SulphCo has a collaboration agreement with Chevron Texaco Technology Co., a unit of ChevronTexaco Corp., to expedite commercialization of the technology.

Masica served as president of Texaco Chemical, Inc. from 1994 to 1997. During his 39-year career at Texaco, now ChevronTexaco, he also held the position of vice president-business management of Texaco Chemical Company. Masica has participated in a leadership role in two major divestitures, as well as other domestic and foreign reorganizations, mergers and startups. He fills the seat vacated by Kirk Schumacher, president of SulphCo, in a move to create a more balanced board of directors for the company.

"Dick's expertise, counsel and respected track record in the industry will be extremely helpful in guiding our efforts as we continue to bring our technology to market," said Rudolf Gunnerman, SulphCo chairman and chief executive officer.

"I am very pleased to be part of the board at SulphCo," Masica said. "The company's technology has real potential to increase our domestic oil supply and reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

About SulphCo, Inc.

SulphCo has developed a patented process employing ultrasound technology to desulfurize and hydrogenate crude oil and other oil related products. The company's technology upgrades sour heavy crude oils into sweeter, lighter crudes, producing more gallons of usable oil per barrel. SLPH- SulphCo Receives Fourth U.S. Patent for Its Ultrasound Technology to Upgrade and Desulfurize Oil

Wednesday, December 08, 2004 07:01 ET

SPARKS, Nev., Dec 8, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH), a leader in developing and marketing high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment for the petroleum industry, announced that the company has received the fourth U.S. patent for its proprietary ultrasound process to remove sulfur from crude oil. Patent no. 6,827,844 was issued on Dec. 7, 2004. Dr. Rudolf W. Gunnerman, listed as the inventor, assigned the patent to SulphCo.

SulphCo's high-powered ultrasound process to remove sulfur from crude produces more usable gallons of oil per barrel. It upgrades sour heavy into sweeter lighter crude by altering the molecular structure of oil, breaking the molecular bonds in oil and water to free impurities. The new patent, "Ultrasound-Assisted Desulfurization of Fossil Fuels in the Presence of Dialkyl Ethers," covers the desulfurized fossil fuel produced by the chemical reaction when the water and hydrocarbon mixture is exposed to intense ultrasonic waves.

SulphCo currently has three other U.S. patents issued to cover the development and manufacture of its high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment. The first patent, no. 6,402,939, was issued on June 11, 2002 and assigned to SulphCo by Dr. Teh Fu Yen of the University of Southern California. The second and third patents, no. 6,500,219 and no. 6,652,992, were issued to Dr. Gunnerman on December 31, 2002 and November 25, 2003, respectively, and assigned to SulphCo. SulphCo also has one additional patent allowed and has three other patents pending.
