Spoke, that is correct, they acutally lose money on each unit of the Xbox they sell, however they make it up in increased game sales since the lower unit price of the Xbox will result in allowing the unit in a greater number of homes.

The simple point you made that Microsoft is a software company that is VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY to ever be involoved with NVEIs EMBARQ is a point that we all understand - except for Groovemaster and the few remaining hopefuls on this board.

C'mon now Spoke I'm not trying to discredit you. I like to argue you know that. I do believe that maybe we have not been reading the same things. I'll stand by my point that Microsoft is more than a software company at this stage in the game.

After rereading your post I do have to disagree with this statement.

Thought not particularly relevant, it does not take a great deal of sophisticated thought to understand the reasoning behind the Xbox for Microsoft. If you have followed them at all - read the press reseases, listened to conference calls - you would know that the Xbox hardware was intended to substantially increase Microsoft's penetration into the game software market. As I said in a previous post, the purpose of Xbox was not to make money on hardware, but to increase software sales.

This is incorrect as Xbox's initial slam was there was no games to play on it. The games really came after the Xbox. Most of the games are made by others......not Microsoft.
