I wish I knew. Maybe it's stuck in the press and they can't get it out.

GEO, my initial guess was that “in press” means it’s “in the hands of the publisher” – ie, no real hint of acceptance or published timing.

But, then I did a quick Google which yielded this. Obviously, not sure if this fellow’s right or not…

Yes. Specifically, it means that the corresponding author has the acceptance letter from the editor in hand but the print version is not yet available. In the case of Science, it may have been published online - they have been known to post articles on their web site several weeks before the print version appears.

What he is referring to is an upcoming NATURE-MED. publication of the pre-clinical test results of PPHM’s Anti-PS mabs that were presentated at the “The AIDS Vaccine 2008 Conference” (CapeTown, S.Africa) on 10-14-08 by Dr. Tony Moody (currently CHAVI’s Chief-Medical-Officer):
10-14-08, MOODY/HAYNES AIDS-VACCINE’08/CAPETOWN:

Regarding timing, and why NM publication has taken so long, I posed that question to the Editor of NATURE-MEDICINE back in August, and he responded thusly:
8-4-09, Editor/NM: “...As a general note, though, I can tell you that a paper submitted in may to any Nature journal is unlikely to appear published within 3 months. Papers often go through multiple rounds of review, and 10-12 months delays are not uncommon...”

"In press" just means it's in production at the printer being printed on paper. They can also publish it online before, during, or after that process. If you can't find it online yet, then they may be waiting to publish online when the print copies are available. (That's what we do -- put up the digital edition as soon as the print version goes into the mail stream).
