Breaking: Badnarik reported hospitalized after heart attack
December 22nd, 2009 · 36 Comments

From an email apparently written by Gary Franchi, national director of Restore the Republic, and forwarded by a Campaign For Liberty activist:

I just received word that the President of the 2009 Continental Congress and 2004 Presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party, Michael Badnarik had a Heart Attack this morning and [is] in an unconscious state. His condition is serious.

His Mother, Elaine, reported to me that Michael was in Madison, Wisconsin attending a hearing regarding a raw milk case. After the hearing he got in a car to go to lunch with friends, He then slumped over. His friends attempted CPR and contacted the paramedics. They attempted to revive him 3 times with no success. Upon the 4th attempt his heart was revived yet with erratic behavior.

He was taken by helicopter to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital CCU in Lacrosse, WI. Please do no call or visit the hospital, only family is allowed.

Watch IPR for more details as they become available.

I wonder what this does for the Freedom County movement taking place in Red River County, Texas? They openly discuss Badnarik’s sheriff candidacy down there…

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Micheal since he was the first LP presidential candidate I was privileged to vote for. Blessings and a speedy recovery to him. There is a lot more for him to do leading the cause of freedom.

Best wishes on a full and speedy recovery.

Personally, I hope Badnarik knows the Lord.

Politically, his career will forever be marred by the reputation-shredding 2006 congressional $400,000-for-4% failure.

@7 That should be Hacker’s reputation, not Badnarik’s.

Badnarik has always been a tireless fighter for freedom, and has done a lot with little all his political life (to say the least). I hope he can keep going.

My thoughts are with Michael and his family. He is an amazing, principled, motivated man — yet humble and just darned *nice*

Get well soon, Michael.

We need people of integrity in this world like Michael. I will pray that he recovers, if that is God’s will. He has placed his course on The US Constitution online at YouTube. Every American needs to study that course. God Bless You, Michael!

He is my prayers. A good man with an odd career on the public stage. It seems that he came out of nowhere in 2004 and faded quickly after his poor showing in 2006. He had not crossed my mind in a while-a pity, since he always had interesting ideas. Here is hoping he gets well soon.

Michael Badnarik was recently elected President of the Continental Congress 2009 which was put together by We The People Foundation ( http://www.givemeliberty.org ). He has also hosted a radio which was on We The People Radio Network, and after that network folded his show moved over to Republic Broadcasting. In addition to this, he has continued to teach his class on the US Constitution.

He was also supposed to run for Sheriff in some rural county in Texas this year. Hopefully he’ll recover from this and be able to continue his run for that office.

21 Andy // Dec 22, 2009 at 3:29 pm

“He has also hosted a radio”

Should say “show”.
*

22 Rob // Dec 22, 2009 at 3:30 pm

I am glad he remains active since fading from national prominence.

Badnarik is a true defender of individual rights.
I am honored to call this man a true patriot and friend.
Unfortunately, I believe his tireless efforts placed undue stress on his health. My thoughts are with him for a complete recovery.

Per Lew Rockwell’s blog, regarding Michael’s condition:

“UPDATE from David Kramer: Michael is reportedly conscious, and has had a pacemaker installed. His family requests no visitors or calls for now.”

Positive news, to say the least.

My prayers are with you today Michael. Ron Paul cured my apathy, but Michael Badnarik cured my ignorance.

Everyone should take the time to watch is 7 hour Constitution Class. Send it as a holiday cheer… :-)

Just wanted to send a thousand wishes of health for Michael. It’s ironic that he was fighting for healthy freedom (something about helping out the raw milk farmers) when his own health is so fragile. I certainly hope all goes well!

I’m not a religious man by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve prayed all day for Mike and his family. He is one of the very few people I have ever had the good fortune to encounter that is truly worthy of admiration. May he have a speedy and full recovery…

Michael has been a great advocate for liberty and a great teacher about the Constitution. I hope his heart comes back stronger than ever, so he can keep “lighting the fires of liberty, one heart at a time”.
