14:20 RIMM RIMM extends decline, possibly on NTP lawsuit speculation (86.45 -7.51)
We are hearing that the federal circuit judge who is writing the opinion on the patent infringement suit brought by NTP has seen his docket clear up recently. Some traders had been checking court documents for a decision as early as this afternoon. We just checked, and so far, no decision has been issued. The NTP suit could affect RIMM's distribution throughout its North American market, but more than likely, NTP is looking for some type of royalty arrangement. Also note that the original weakness in the stock was caused by the UBS downgrade this morning, based on valuation.
