#10787 RE: mthead #10780

I don't have a very good answer to your question. On November 19th,* I came across an article (in a British paper, I think) about the CRU emails being hacked. That publication linked to this site as a recipient of the leaked material:

Right up front came mention of Steve McIntyre. So, I started reading some things about him. There was nothing scientific about choosing him. He was an available name. I realize that he is not a credentialed climatologist, and that some scientists don't think highly of his work, but his work is offered quite a bit of credibility in some other places.

*(I remember this date only because I pulled up an email I had sent that evening with the above link, and a comment to the effect that this might be big.)

While I think anthropogenic global warming is a very important issue, I also think it is an issue that needs to have the input of scientists of different persuasions. I knew that a lot of scientists didn't consider the issue to be settled science, but I did not know that they had been black balled from the discussion until the emails were hacked or whistle-blown. We went to war on bogus information. Are we going to pass Cap and Trade and base international agreements on possibly bogus information, too?

I never did believe that such a vital substance for life, CO2, could be such a problem, but I was willing to be shown that I was wrong. Some people close to me have joined Al Gore's Holy Church of Global Warming, and are very vehement about their beliefs that the polar bears will all die, and all such stuff Gore has put out. Even my sharp, young doctor, with whom I have had many short conversations about other than me, had to grab on to his stethoscope for support when he said something about man-made global warming and I said I hadn't bought into that yet as I'd seen more rhetorical hysteria than solid evidence. I guess that people have a right to become angry and ugly with some of us non-believers when they think it is our exhaling that is going to kill them. Meanwhile, bring on the science and let's have an honest national debate less all the subterfuge.

And, please don't limit fraudulent science beliefs to right-wingers. Very smart wingers on the other end of the political spectrum are the ones who have bought into "The polar bears are dying" thesis of Al Gore, but they offer no evidence other than their emotional testimony.

This is my last post on this subject - at least for a good while. Thanks for your input.
