Wow. That was a wonderful and terrible thing to share. I trust you understand what is wonderful and what is terrible about it.

I would like to forward to you a quote by Theo Van Gogh, the film maker. He said that America is like the big brother who acts when we don't. He was referring to Europe when he said "we". He was a rare bird for a European in that regard - he loved America and did not fear publicizing the fact.

In connection with your post I would like to also pass on something another friend from Europe told me the other day. He said there is at least one area in France where Moslem women can be beaten and even murdered by their husbands and family and the authorities don't even look into it. So, at least we are a little ahead of that level of indifference.

In closing, one more sentiment: Yet another friend from abroad just now said (he called to inquire about the elections), "One grows sad with age as it becomes clear that there is often nothing to put between power and idealism". What he meant was, often power is the only answer and that is so very sad, but so very true.

Again, thank you for the wonderful post.

When in my youth i loved reading Lysistrata.
Maybe heroines such as this heroic Bibi be hope but i feel the man-beast must destroy itself first.
In the end, bottomline, war and all its madness go back to that boy-beast called boys that grow up to be man-beast playing out still all the lunacy of King of the Hill type games.
This whole campaign of trying to defeat Kerry on he is a wimp and push for Bush premise he is a 'he-man'.
We see Kerry pathetically go on a Goose Hunt to try to alter this image as if it actually matters!!!
But the shame and the disgrace is it does actually matter, the populace is NO more advanced now then 30,000 years ago.
Man the hunter, women the gatherers.
We write endlessly for wherefore and therefore, and for this reason and that reason; when in the end we are, the ruler class, the Male class, just a primitive machine genetically programmed to be the dangerous ape.
What is history but the relentless battle of Ying and Yang.
In the past years we have become YANG extremist.
My dark view is the YANG will not cure its psychotic nature until it has destroyed itself and the planet itself.
I concur with the premise you give, but i am fierce realist, i never allow myself "sweet dreams of what could be" when all of history screams we have progressed not an inch, in fact, are slipping backwards deeper into hellish darkness i feel.
I have decided some years ago my "there is hope!" side was itself some form of genetic embedded mechanism that was preventing me from looking reality in the face, in all its horror, and allowing myself NO mechanism to dismiss it, negate it, soften it with hope bubbles popping into my head and to face that the beast will fulfill its madness in its own destruction.
Sorry BnB but i must present myself for what my true thoughts are, and to not misrepresent myself, when on an issue so profound, the center of our destiny itself---this is not an Eagles/Giants issue, sadly.

Wow. I read that twice, it left me reeling both times. It's almost impossible to believe.

When the third world women finally do say enough is enough, I'd hate to be on the wrong side of the line. Thousands of years of that kind of behavior can build up a pretty explosive mixture and there may not be any men left at all when it's over.
