Okay, this is not a knock on anyone who happens to like Ralph Nader. Heck, this writer first ran into Nader in Hartford in the late 60s while he was doing his Eliot Spitzer thing and giving hometown insurance companies heck. That kind of activism seemed pretty cool, even then. Later, we voluntarily and gladly gave up an entire U.S. postal mailbox in Washington, DC, to Nader because his minions had sent out 100 million fundraising mailers with our address incorrectly printed on the return envelopes. Okay, so we changed numbers partially because we didn’t want to have to sift through 100,000 pieces of mail every day to find our five or six, but you get the point. We have a real election out there tomorrow, folks, and if voters want to vote against Kerry by voting for Nader, they should not make a mockery of their votes, and should vote for Bush. If they truly like the Nader positions on the environment and corporate fraud, they should go ahead and vote for the real candidate with the closest positioning, in other words Kerry. Independent candidates may be the future of America, and we support a hastening of the day when Democrats and Republicans are not always polarizing the Union; but this is perhaps the most important election of the last 50 years, do don’t blow it doing something nutsy. Today? Well, oil traders will be spooked the day after Halloween by the Nigerian national strike scheduled for November 16 against the unions’ “enemy of the Nigerian people,” Royal Dutch Shell. And then there’s the resurfacing of Osama messing with us again. Well, the little rally last week was a welcome respite.
