Statistical significance is of little import here, in a pilot study. It's a bonus if you get it--what you look for is a signal. The definition of 'bad data' is very different here than in a pivotal trial, where the FDA is the arbiter, and .05 the standard. The definition of being 'material' is also not necessarily connected to p=.05.
