The two reasons that come to my mind that Putin would support Bush are that he does not want another U.S. war in the F.R.Y. or he thinks that Bush will weaken America more than Kerry in Iraq. You have mentioned Holbroke I believe as a reason that Putin does not want Kerry in charge. That makes a certain amount of sense to me but I am not so sure that EU countries are going to put up with the U.S. going in to the F.R.Y. alone and I doubt they will have the public support to escalate military offensives in the F.R.Y. any time soon.
