So far I have not run out before electricity coming back. If the worst happens, I have my laptop hooked up on the 500VA UPS as the backup to my backup computer.

UPS keeps my computer and monitor on line for about 20-25 mins
after total power failure. All depends as you say on the UPS and the amount of gear you are trying to keep going.
