Ouch, you guys are getting reamed in NH. I can see why you have a bug about taxes....

I live in Oregon, which state wide is pretty low, but I live in Multnomah County, which is quite expensive! Let me put it this way: I moved just 15 miles away from my first home, and ended up paying 2.5x more property taxes per assessed home dollar in the next county.

Then again, Multnomah does a lot for the City of Portland, including a lot of city expansion, so I'm hoping when the economy does turn around, I live in a part of town that can appreciate in value. Too bad I've already had a nice 35% haircut on the value of my home (still better than some, I guess...). But even so, I pay property taxes on the prior assessed value, not the current market value. :-(

It's a bad situation, no doubt. I just try to avoid misplaced blame, and instead look forward to what we need to do to get back on track.
