MK Levin: Revoke Raad Salah's Citizenship and Expel Him by Gil Ronen .. 10/07/09
I didn't know Ra'ad Salah.
(IsraelNN.com) MK Yariv Levin (Likud) said Wednesday that the way the authorities dealt with the Arab rioting on the Temple Mount is an example of the mistaken approach that the Jewish people have adopted towards the problem of the Arab citizens of Israel, and in the matter of the Temple Mount especially.
"There is a crisis of judicial feebleness here,” he said in an interview for Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service.
Levin said that Israel must not fear violent responses by the Arabs to assertions of its sovereignty throughout Jerusalem and specifically on the Temple Mount. “If we live our lives according to fears of Arab rioting we will not go far,” he said. “We need to take charge of matters and to behave accordingly.”
Expel Salah
Regarding Sheikh Raad Salah, Levin said Israel should withdraw his citizenship and expel him from its territory, and that it should do the same for other inciters like him. At the same time, he said, it should determine regular arrangements for the ascent of Jews to the Temple Mount. The Israeli hesitation to act in this spirit is what causes more and more riots, he said.
"The riots are the result of a public that holds on to an Israeli ID card and wants to heat up religious flames,” the lawmaker explained. “We must take clear, sharp actions [and] convey a message that we own the place. We need to stare reality in the face.”
Levin, who understands Arabic, said that he hears what the Arab Knesset Members say and knows that they offer more than quiet support for the rioters, and that they themselves “stoke the fire” with clear incitement. An example of this can be found in the Balad party's internet website, which is funded with Israeli taxpayers' money, but lauds former Balad leader Azmi Bishara, who has escaped Israel after being investigated for treasonous activity.
Balad, he said, is even more extreme than the Palestinian Authority, as could be seen from its criticism and denunciations of the PA chairman for failing to act upon the Goldstone report. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/133750
Israel and the New Politics of Insecurity .. two bites of the suggested shift.
"Despite various Israeli politicians’ Obama-inspired rhetoric of change, .. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/04/AR2009020403789.html .. the real shift in Israeli society, which this election has brought to the fore, is the decline of left-wing Zionism, and the prevalence of a politics of insecurity, which inspires defensive patriotism rather than ideological zealotry. The fall of the centre-left Labour party, which came fourth with only 13 seats, and the rise of the right-wing party Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel our Home), which got 15 seats, encapsulate these two defining features: the death of grand-vision Zionism and the rise of a new politics of hiding behind walls."
[...]
"But Israelis’ victim mentality, and its realisation through policy, has changed very much over the years. In the past, it was accompanied by a confident, ideology-driven politics and, in times of conflict, by clear strategic aims. By contrast, the 2006 Second Lebanon War and the recent war in Gaza, or ‘Operation Cast Lead’, had no definable or achievable goals. These were violent, defensive statements of Israel’s ‘right to exist’, rather than ideology-driven, expansionist wars.
As Mick Hume pointed out on spiked .. http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/6075/ .. last month, compared to the confident Zionism at the time of the founding of the state, ‘Israel today is a far more insecure and defensive society, concerned to bunker down behind its new security barriers and cut itself off from the Palestinians locked into Gaza and the West Bank, lashing out when it feels they won’t leave it alone’. In the run-up to the election, politicians played on the public’s fears and insecurities, competing over whom might best manage the country’s existential threats. For this, Palestinians – and a far smaller number of Israelis – have paid with their lives." http://www.jewcy.com/post/israel_and_new_politics_insecurity
Netanyahu political extremist rhetoric. .. munch ..
Netanyahu takes power, warning of cultlike Iran with nukes
Of particular concern to world leaders is Netanyahu's long-standing opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. A two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been the guiding principle for international diplomats since Israel was established in 1948. Netanyahu refuses to accept that basic premise and favors giving Palestinians limited powers. http://www.thesunnews.com/1014/story/937633.html?storylink=mirelated
Is it still the case? Israel will not talk to Hamas. Will not talk to Syria.
Likud to US: We won't honor Syria deal .. 'nother munchie ..
Overall, the Likud's position on Syria has differed from that of Kadima in that it does not believe that Israel should be conducting negotiations with Syria until Syria's stance on a number of key issues - such as support for Hamas and Hizbullah - changes, Steinitz said. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1225715331526
Top U.S. Scientist Arrested in FBI Sting Attempting to Sell Nuclear Secrets to Israel Allegations mirror those long made by FBI translator / whistleblower Sibel Edmonds...
This is, of course, the precise sort of thing which FBI linguist-turned-whistleblower Sibel Edmonds has been alleging concerning both Turkish and Israeli interests for some time. In her case, she has testified under oath to nearly-identical behavior by U.S. scientists, military personnel and academics at top-secret nuclear and military installations who are alleged to have done precisely what Stewart David Nozette has now been busted for, as reported today by AFP... A top American scientist who once worked for the Pentagon and the US space agency NASA was arrested Monday and charged with attempted spying for Israel, the Department of Justice said.
Stewart David Nozette, 52, developed an experiment that fueled the discovery of water on the south pole of the moon, and previously held special security clearance at the Department of Energy on atomic materials, the DOJ said.
He is charged with "attempted espionage for knowingly and willfully attempting to communicate, deliver, and transmit classified information relating to the national defense of the United States to an individual that Nozette believed to be an Israeli intelligence officer," the DOJ said.
Nozette had been dealing with an FBI undercover agent in a sting operation, the department said, adding there was no wrongdoing by Israel. ... "The conduct alleged in this complaint is serious and should serve as a warning to anyone who would consider compromising our nation's secrets for profit," said David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security. ... "From 1989 through 2006, Nozette held security clearances as high as top secret and had regular, frequent access to classified information and documents related to the US national defense," the Justice Department said. ... "In addition, Nozette allegedly offered to reveal additional classified information that directly concerned nuclear weaponry, military spacecraft or satellites, and other major weapons systems," DOJ said.
In addition to allegations against a network of moles said to be based at U.S. nuclear weapons facilities, Edmonds has also fingered current and former members of Congress, such as Dennis Hastert (R-IL), Dan Burton (R-IN), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Stephen Solarz (D-NY) and Tom Lantos (D-CA, deceased), as well as high-ranking Pentagon and State Dept. officials such as Marc Grossman, Douglas Feith, Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, as having participated, via bribery and blackmail schemes, in related espionage with Turkish and Israeli interests.
Despite several high profile front-page features on all of this in the UK Sunday Times last year (here, here and here), Edmonds' recent sworn deposition on these matters, a recent cover-story interview in American Conservative magazine and an 18-year FBI executive officer corroborating key elements of her story and calling for a "Special Counsel" to investigate and prosecute, the U.S. corporate mainstream media has failed to report on the Edmonds story at all since she was finally allowed to speak about these matters in August following seven years of gag-orders from the Bush Administration's invocation of the so-called "State Secrets Privilege". http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7475
Outgoing head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Muhammad Elbaradei, said that UN inspectors this week discovered "nothing to be worried about" at a new nuclear enrichment facility that is being built in a mountain near Qom. He added, "The idea was to use it as a bunker under the mountain to protect things. It's a hole in a mountain."
Nevertheless, Rupert Murdoch's Sky News is reporting that Israel is actively making plans to attack Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities. Here is the Sky News video:

No worries at Iran uranium site: IAEA chief
(AFP) – 3 days ago
VIENNA — UN experts found "nothing to be worried about" during their first inspection of a previously secret uranium enrichment site in Iran, UN atomic watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Thursday.
In an interview with the New York Times, International Atomic Energy Agency chief ElBaradei said inspectors had found "nothing to be worried about" at the site, which is being built inside a mountain near the Shiite holy city of Qom.
"The idea was to use it as a bunker under the mountain to protect things. It?s a hole in a mountain," ElBaradei told the newspaper.
A team of four IAEA inspectors flew to Iran on October 25 for a first visit of the site, a month after the revelation of its existence had triggered widespread outrage in the West, which suspects Iran is enriching uranium with an ultimate goal of using it to make atomic weapons.
Tehran strongly denies the charge.
Iran has already been enriching uranium -- in defiance of three sets of UN sanctions -- for several years at another plant in the central city of Natanz.
Enriched uranium produces fuel for civilian reactors, but in a highly extended form can also make the fissile core of an atomic bomb.
Tehran has said it decided to build the site in Qom as a fallback in case the plant in Natanz plant was bombed by, for example, Israel.
Until now, the IAEA has declined to comment on whether its inspectors found anything surprising at the site, or whether they were given full access to the site as well as access to the necessary documentation and individuals.
Details on the visit are likely to be included in the agency's next report on Iran expected in mid-November.
Last month, ElBaradei brokered a deal between Iran, France, Russia and the United States to supply much-needed uranium to a research reactor in Tehran.
But while Moscow, Paris and Washington all quickly approved the plans, Tehran has said it wants some amendments and further talks before it agrees.
Under ElBaradei's proposal, Iran will ship out most of its known low-enriched uranium -- about 1,200 kilogrammes -- to Russia for further enrichment. The material will then be turned into fuel by France.
"There's total distrust on the part of Iran," ElBaradei said.
Some reports have suggested Iran wants to ship out the uranium piecemeal, not all at once.
But that was not the issue, ElBaradei said.
"The issue is timing: whether the uranium goes out and then some time later they get the fuel, as was agreed in Geneva, or whether it only goes at the same time as the fuel is delivered."
A simultaneous exchange "would not defuse the crisis, and the whole idea is to defuse the crisis," ElBaradei said.
Compromise proposals were being explored, the IAEA continued.
One would be to send Iran's uranium "to a third country, which could be a friendly country to Iran, and it stays there. Park it in another state, then later bring in the fuel. The issue is to get it out, and so create the time and space to start building trust," ElBaradei said.
