Soxfan, thanks for bringing up the political angle. It is definitely much more of an influence than we'd prefer it to be. Selfish interests do tend to get in the way of policy, but in general I'm trying to be consistent in pointing out that threats to national security need to be dealt with, though it doesn't necessarily need to be by going to war.
With the Taliban, I understand the rationale of having gone to war, and I also accept the argument that perhaps we didn't need to. Let's just say it's controversial. The Obama administration - with Hillary in particular - have done tremendously well in setting up a coalition of support for peaceful measures, including cooperative sanctions with other U.N. partners.
I think they should keep it up.
