OT

You are so fortunate to have had your Sheltie up to 19 1/2 years. That's just amazing, as most seem to die between 14 and 16. My girl is 15, has arthritis, a congenital enlarged heart, cancer (operation 2 years ago and it has now returned), and 75% kidney failure I suspect from all the medications they insist I give her for the other problems). I'm not going to put her through any more operations, and am just attempting to keep her comfortable for whatever time she has remaining to her. Odd, she always looks so healthy and happy.

I'm afraid she isn't going to be with me much longer, and will leave a big hole in my life. On the basis that God affords an "easy" death to good souls, I've been hoping against hope her heart would just give out one day. I so dread the coming time when I will have to decide to close her eyes forever. I know it is a blessing to a suffering animal, but it is hard to be the instrument of death for a much loved, ever-loving and faithful companion.
