First e-mail answered, in regards to Instant solar.

Dennis,

Thank you for sharing your comments with us regarding your previous frustration around installing solar and your eligibility to receive the state grants.

Our initial target market is existing solar installers and electricians looking to enter the solar market; we believe that our system will materially reduce the cost of install, which in turn will lower the cost to the user. Our secondary market is the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) that you mentioned, we are currently reviewing how this market can receive the grants in our targeted states that you previously referred to.

With respect to your specific questions, our current product configuration uses Canadian Solar panels and a Solectria inverter. The inverter is pre-wired and the panels are pre-racked equating to a very quick set up. The cost range depends on the size of the system you buy and in what quantity, we are currently quoting systems in the $5.5-$8.0 / watt range.

Again, thanks for both your comments and support. If you have further questions or would like to speak about purchasing a system, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Jay Testa

My opinion is that they are pricing this thing inline with the typical system you can purchase from any company today, but the added benefit of the instant solar is the PREWIRED configuration.

This is why I asked about DYI'ers, because most states have rebates but you can't get them unless you use a handpicked installer.
You know what I am getting at, (huge markups)

Personally I can buy a 7K system for about $36,000 as it is, so price wise, the instant solar is in the same range.

Sadly, my rebate possibility used to be $5.25 a watt up to 5000 watts.

Now it is a measly $1.75/watt which makes affording this system impossibly again.

The government has a 30 percent tax write of for solar as well, but you don't get the 30 percent written off at once, it is spread out usually over time.
I need instant results, and won't pay $20,000 out of pocket for a system if it takes 18 years to get my money back.

It just keeps getting worse.

But good news is Solar is getting cheaper and soon even manufacturers will lower them greatly which will help builders of systems like the instant solar eventually become more affordable.
