This quote is oft attributed to Woody Allen but it was Groucho that first said it, Allen quotes it, saying Groucho Marx once said "----etc"
When Groucho first tried out for "You Bet Your Life", the producers were flabbergasted, they assumed he pre-wrote his jokes, but they in the try out witnessed one continuous stream of ad-libs. He got the job:)
