Re: Defending his reasoning, if not his outburst, today Rep. Joe Wilson, R-SC, declared that “the Congressional Research Service has indicated that indeed the bills that are before Congress would include illegal aliens.”
Yet, as I read your link, I see just the opposite in most cases, except in the areas that already exist to provide emergency care for illegals. I liked this line, which spells it out nicely:
Illegal immigrants are already eligible for emergency care through the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, signed by President Reagan in 1986.
Wait, don't tell me: my guess is that Wilson, like most Republicans, is a big fan and supporter of the late President Reagan, and has probably used his name before as a testament of what conservative politicians aspire to be. Ironic, isn't it? :-)
This part is also interesting:
Could the House bill expand emergency Medicaid laws as they already exist, perhaps – perhaps -- expanding coverage for illegal immigrants in keeping with current law?
Well, if Wilson would like to backpeddle to say that Congressional Research Service "perhaps - perhaps" has indicated such and such about the bill, then perhaps I can accept that minor modification. ;-)
