IMHO, the accumulation of power by JPMC wa sby far the driving factor. No way could they have seen the huge meltdown coming. However when it happened they were in a perfect postion to benefit due to their insider status at the Federal Reserve. The death spiral, contrived or not, by Paulson and Crew, gave JPMC the opening they were waiting for and with the Government's assistance and blessing they dam-well took it, lock stock and barrel, to hell with the consequences,if any. Why would JPMC worry about how they looked financially? They were in the loop to succeed from the mess they caused. This ain't rocket science folks.
