In criminal cases the right to confrontation exists for all witness testimony...

That reminds me... Nothing to do with this trial, but... In Italy they have REAL confrontations. It's called "Il Confronto". In court, two witnesses are seated across from each other at a table. The magistrate (in this case, the prosecutor) launches a general question, and both witnesses respond by discussing it with each other.

You can imagine the delightful potential for high drama...

ya, I saw that in a criminal case, in high school: one guy ran up and stuck a pistol into the ribs of another guy, and fired.

The guy who got shot died in the arms of his former high school coach.

The guy that pulled the trigger got away, because another guy stepped forward.

Bottom line? they both got away...
