I'm planning to go visit the servers tomorrow. Maybe I'll finally remember to bring the digital camera so I can get a picture of them.

I'm going to be in town anyway, so figure I'll stop by and see how hard the hard drives are working. That's my favorite measure of how abusive I'm being to a machine, and it's impossible to tell remotely. Might sit down and spend some time doing a few things to them to enjoy not having to do it via dialup. Dialup sucks! But if it didn't, I might be less obsessive about tweaking things for speed.

To be or not to be (or) Ignore or Select or Filter
Bob,
For sure if iHub duplicates the Si Ignore feature,
then a name without negative conjunctures is needed.
Someone suggested Filter,
having no negative attachmints like Ignore has of
- ignoble, ignominious, ignoramus, ignorance, ignorant
also,
The above word Select would be too complex since it
would require a negative slant to un-select a person
that was not selected by the user, but assigned.(babble)
ok,
But a very good example is contained in the following post
made yesterday for a Select doing a SUPER un-Ignore :o)

Bob,
As a long time member of SI, I found the "Ignore" feature
to be extremely useful... ... call it something other than Ignore
(say like Message Filter)... know that I (and others) have used
this feature to filter out posts from very creditable people
who have investment time frames or investment styles
just aren't relevant to my investment style or goals... [end.]
ok,
A good example here is the new Zeev Hed thread that had
about 250 posts Sunday and near 500 Monday.
I'am not a trader as these folks are and only do pennies
and then only in the desert dirts that require one to wear
a tin foil hat to receive signals from unknow'able sources.
ok,
But general market trends are of interest to me in the same
manner as everyone else, so what Zeev says i want to know.
As the above mentioned poster say in his post,
where Zeev goes, so goes a zillion others.
A People Mark on Si for Zeev only takes me to his profile,
and if it is done this same way on iHub then it simply lists
Zeev's latest many posts and to read each one has to click
it one at a time and Back to that profile list and do another.
Not a nice way to read lots of them as it takes more time
than a Next since you have to do a Back and find you last
one clicked.
ok,
Now here is WACKO use of an Ignore feature to solve this
for me when all i want is Zeev's posts and no one elses,
and it works IF on the Zeev board i want to read no ones else.
So i will Ignore everyone on the Zeev board, and doing the Next
or Next 10 skips all except Zeev's. VERY FAST since i'am doing
a Next on a board, not clicking Zeev's profile lsiting.
ok,
Now here is a GREAT feature Si and i'am sure no other web site
with threads or boards has available.
Imagine a Select function that allows you to do just the opposite
of an Ignore. This would be best (or needed) done like a portfolio
where people have many with names and they select which to view.
Imagine now,
Step 1 - initial a Select function and give it a name
(or Modify an existing one)
Step 2 - at this point its empty of member names
and now you can add iHub members to it
for example,
Zeev Hed
Bob...
Matt...
Step 3 - update/close
Now until you actually invoke it using
Select(name)
everything is as now
but once executed, go to the Zeev thread
and its as if you Ignored everyone except Zeev, Bob, and Matt.
and,
to undo it
Unselect(name)
so,
This Select really does a bunch of Ignores
using the list created like a portfolio,
and one would not need that People Mark
except to locate the boards where person posted on,
and then go to them boards and quickly using Next 10
get them all posts.
now,
questions pop up like mushrooms now
- what if a brand new member posted on a board,
so that one would not notice them using an existing Select
I can address this indirectly using a concern of using Ignore
on folks and missing out on an important post.
My view is that if i have XYZ on ignore and he or she posts
very important information, then others will comment and
discuss it and alert me to this so that i can un-Ignore that
person to read it, and then re-Ignore them.
Same with Select, as even if i only had Zeev selected,
those posts of Zeev informs me of who he feels adds
to his day, and those folks being important to Zeev supplies
me with he list of folks to add to my Select list, with any
new names of members Zeev spends time posting to.
