Board him with a friend, and start taking some time away from home in spurts that last longer and longer. Cats hate to be abandoned, hell, all pets hate it. It's a rather disturbing shock if the pet has not been left alone for long periods before. Try a day, then maybe two, local hotels work well for this, and they are more of a vacation then you might think. JMO
