You are right about how this goes much of the time traderdon, but there is another game. There are people who show up when things are bad and put out negative to shake lose selling, just as some try to pump up the price on hype.
If you see someone's history and it's all negative on a stock, chances are there is more to that than just an interest in informing their fellow man. Pumping, Bashing, two sides of the same unethical coin.
Most people follow their interests and very few take time to post if they have no interest.
Pumpers know if there is momentum up that their words have a stronger effect. Others know the same thing on the other side, which is why they show up when the holders of shares are probably at their weakest. To trigger a sell off, and knowing human nature, to profit from that.
