Can't know for sure, but Intel has pretty good visiblilty out into the distribution chain. This was the first thought that came to me when I heard about the pricing move.

Intel's recent comments suggest that (at least they believe) demand is quite inelastic. In the CC they indicated dropping prices had not and would not increase demand. If they truly believe this raising prices makes sense, particularly if they also believe AMD is capacity constrained.

What about the IBM manufacturing deal rumor that would have increased AMD capacity before the next fab comes online? The Inquirer hinted at it several times a few months ago. Has there been any real news one way or the other?

I read the stuff about INTC raising prices on SI. It seems to make perfect sense, from an INTC point of view, since as has been commented on ad nauseum, AMD is capacity limited by only having fab30.
