#63076 RE: harrypothead #63046

Yawn, we hear this every year. Let's be realistic though. The Republicans are the party of the majority. NO I don't mean majority vs. minority, i.e. white vs. black Americans, I mean ordinary, average people. And yes, I'm talking in general terms here.

In contrast, the Democrats are essentially the collective power of many small groups who, on their own, would never have a voice. They are like the Island of Reject Toys from Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer, who have been shipped back to the North Pole and put together again and told they don't have to roll over and die, because someone cares about them. And together, they can have a voice.

Which is what annoys me about comments like this. Yes, Republicans may split hairs over this or that, but lets face it, they are the only party in this country that is united behind a fairly common cause. On the other hand, the only thing the Democrats share is a common agenda, which is for each small interest group to have its voice heard, and to force the country to consider their voice because of their collective power with all the other small voices.

Essentially, if the Republicans weren't around to be the evil enemy of the Democratic Party, the Democrats would eat their own young because of the vast range of opinions and viewpoints within the party.
