OT: Healthcare and the Obama Emergency

Bob Dole was recently on NPR advocating for an aggressive timeline.

The former Senate leaders will try to give today's lawmakers a push by reminding them that the effort goes back to Harry Truman's presidency 60 years ago and that its prospects seem brighter today than ever. And last, that if it isn't done this year, electoral politics may block chances of passage for years to come.

"If we don't do it this year, next year's (a congressional) election year, the next year is the year before the presidential election, and then the next year is the presidential election," Dole said.

"So you're looking at five years, that's the way I calculate it, it may be off a year or two. So let's do it now. We're probably not going to get everything. It's an enormous package."

To judge and administration or congress by its actions or inactions in the first 6 months is totally unrealistic. Realististically the affects can not be measured or seen for years. We have just begun to affects of some the programs put into affect by Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush. Some good and some bad.

In addition you state the healthcare could have been addressed during the past or in the future. There have bee attempts to address the issue in the past and I'm sure will be more in the future (irrepestive of whether a new program is approved during the Obama years).

That stated, Healthcare, the economy and almost every other item under review or consideration need to be throuroughly investigated before any action is taken. Too often, seemingly good programs or laws are instituted and only later do we discovered results that were never intended.
