"This groundbreaking concept required equally groundbreaking technology to bring it to life. Nexicon will help drive an unprecedented amount of viewer participation by allowing viewers to see in real time where votes are coming from and where their contestants are in the race."

"This is just one example of how our technology can be used to monitor, collect and analyze an extraordinary amount of data transmissions in real time," said Tommy Stiansen, chief technology officer of Nexicon. "In this case we're monitoring votes across the Internet and on cellular networks, but there are also exciting applications in any industry where collection of vast amounts of data with real-time analysis and reporting with advanced geolocation is required."

"During the show's auditions in El Salvador alone, there were more than 11 million text votes in just 10 days, so we're expecting an enormous amount of voting once the show begins to air across the world on June 28th," added Sciacca. "Nexicon will be able to track and pinpoint exactly where each and every vote is coming from and display that in real time for the world to see."

"...the television series will air from June 28, 2009 through September 20, 2009."

"during the 13-week airing of the reality show... Nexicon will geographically track each and every mobile and Internet vote that is cast. Nexicon's technology will create a real-time graphic to be displayed onscreen during the show's airing and online at esmiplaneta.com that depicts voter locations across the Americas. As viewers participate from 23 countries and rally behind their favorites, they can see which countries are in the lead and which contestant is likely to take home the ultimate prize..."

A couple of comments...

First, NXCO gets a thirteen week long global (or at least regional) airing of commercials for their capability...

Second, NXCO has taken the capability from being about quietly gathering information the use of which is intended to be kept hidden and/or used only in a proprietary way... and made it fully interactive... with links back to the sources directly through public media in real time ???

The nature of that innovation is potentially mind boggling. It IS an innovation... which means where it leads to next is still largely an unknown...

"Sweeps week" ??? I expect it may put set top box TV ratings agencies out of business by next week... while providing their former customers with vastly more useful information at dramatically lower cost. Now, the resolution they get is WHAT people watch and how much of it... (Ignoring they may leave the TV on while not watching ???... Really, those late night infomercials are wildly popular... no one is sleeping through them.) rather than a resolution that might show what they like, or don't, in what they watch AS they watch... or IF they ARE really watching and paying attention, at what level, with what they think about what they watch ??? WOW!!!

Combine the two... high resolution on what and how people watch within what they watch... and pair that awareness from interactive information with programming choices in the sequences prior to or the timing of insertion of particular commercial content ? Advertising dollars spent are not all equally valuable to advertisers...

There is a LOT of advertising $$$ tied to the almost wholly fictional numbers used now... It may be the networks like the current arrangements, but advertisers will want a service to key in on "best value" in their spending using information the providers selling time won't give them ???? HUGE $$$.

Set top box monitoring ? How about an installation cost limited to issuing a password... ????

I can think of a number of obviously likely results from that sort of immediately obvious interactivity that are potentially transformational of a whole lot more than NXCO's business.

Seen those media driven opinion generation efforts that use green or red tracking lines showing changing audience reactions as hand selected audiences respond favorably or not to political speeches as they occur ? Forget that crap... and add to "real" vs. "staged by political operatives" a very high resolution right down to the precinct level ??? WOW!!!

Opinion polling with very fine issue resolution... without firewalls at the level of editorial influence enabling intercepting results, skewing data, and or skewing the meanings in inputs without feedback pointing it out ?

Monitoring multidimensional elements of information flow in all electronic elections... either validating results... balancing the accounting in the numbers flows... or not ? More votes happening than there are voters in some precinct... showing up in real time ? More votes in the tally than were transmitted from legitimate voters ? Hmmm.

This is potentially disruptive type technology...
