I buy packaged chicken manure in late summer and put it down in late October just before my annual trip to Florida. When I return after about ten days, I then rototill the manure and let it rest for the winter.

I also put chicken manure into my large garden containers and mix it thoroughly with a garden trowel. This year I will add a little to my composters and then spread shredded leaves over the manure.

I just began using the chicken manure two years ago and it has done wonders for the garden. This activity is done before I spread the chicken manure over the garden.

I still bury partially shredded leaves about eight inches deep into the garden beds and have noticed a great increase in worms. Some areas, in fact, did not have any worms.

Thanks for the post, mbc. I will put it in the iBox, which I have neglected for a while.
