Bob, My reply to your replies to my post.
.

"a cute trick... You can "Keep" the post for future reference..."
.
ok, got(see) it now and great feature that can have
an extra usage thats obvious but may be overlooked.
You mentioned that while Si does not decrement the count
for those public posts posted to you while doing Next 10,
i actually use that "feature" to allow me to read them posts
and not having to reply to them until later after i went through
the remaining posts on the thread/board. I'am sure that those
like Zeev on Si can receive a dozen at a time and depending
on Time & Space & Area 51 conditions he may want to read
them all before replying using Next 10(s) only, and if he does
reply to a post, then he simply does a Back and then Next 10.
I'am babbing so i'll try and quicken this.
If i had a dozen posts to me that i read using Next 10
then all i need to do is go to my mailbox and view them
and answer those i wish to reply and Clear the rest.
The simply hic-up with that is if i want to put it off again,
answering some and not others, to do this hours later,
i will have to note on paper which ones are yes to reply
since hours later i may forget. Now if on Si there was
a box nect to each unread post to me rather than a global
clear out box, then that would solve that problem of memory.
Your iHub's Keep can be used that way, as eventhought my
inbox shows a dozen for me to reply to, i will Next 10 with
that new feature here that WILL decrement the count and
remove it from my inbox, BUT i'am able to reply on the spot,
or not and Keep it and have it waiting for me to reply later.
Only hic-up is to remember which Keeps are simple Keeps
or "Kept" for a reply :o) Sandwich brings up a wondermint
wondering why not have Keep on all posts, rather than just
those sent ot you? Lots of folks want to "remember" posts
created by others for others. Guess maybe two variations
of Keep would help so that Keeps for what you have now
go into your mailbox as now done, and another Keep,
those on all other posts, go into a seperate place.
Golly, now a BLT Sandwich.
Bob,
Do i need to rub lemon juice to "see a cute trick..." :o)
Its a feature much needed to "Keep" a post for future reference
like People/Book marks, this being a Post mark that to me
would be great if i could click to my Post Marks and have
them listed almost like the results of a search with the board
name and couple first lines in the post...
...
Do you mean like a separate view of a board
that'll show only your Kept messages on that board?
In addition to the separate category for Kept messages
when you go to the MailBox page?..
...
Golly Bob, great idea on top of my other idea.
Do both please :o)
But really, yes that would be fancy footwork,
but my thoughts were to place the Keeps not inside
a look-a-like board, but my personal Keep Board
that contains all my Keeps from all boards i did it.
This would be like a board only in the Search Local sense
where my Keeps would be listed in a manner similiar
to doing a search on Si and having the thread name listed
then a few lines of the post that was a hit.
The ability to search would be way extra here since
upfront you are able to already display the Keep'ed posts,
just add the board name to it so one has that extra clue
of what it was about, the reason to Keep it.
(oops)
I got the Private Message you sent to all about features.
Good.
But i want to file it before i delete/remove it and don't see
how to do this using the Archive feature.
...
We're in agreement about quotes.
I don't see any purpose in providing charts, etc...
...
Ask the traders here about this as i bet many have
either a fancy multi-window screen with quotes
or a seperate monitor & pc hook up. My bet is
that if Netscape or Microsoft browsers have the
ability like Opera to create totally seperate windows,
that they already have a quote screen running
probably in the background they can bring up.
Something called monster name like Monzilla
has just been released, free browser.
...
It's kind of a catch 22.
If I make the delayed quotes available only to subscribers,
more people might become subscribers, enabling me to pay
the cost of the quotes. But on the other hand, it might not result
in an increase in subscriptions...
...
I would place things like quotes and charts as "don't worry about"
unless the paying members scream that the lack of lessens what
they come here for, which i think is to chat and post messages.
Bet your take on what this place is is already on target,
and making the posting/communication/searching/logging
abilities is 99% what will make iHub successful. The focus
on helping members read posts and store posts and keep track
of posts keeps the thoughts flowing between members,
and that why they come here i think, to listen and tell.
To me the hardest thing to accomplish for you is to get
members to use new features. People will resist new
bells & whistles unless a "iHub for Dummies" is available.
