...It's true that the word "pandemic" sounds scary. But it simply means a global epidemic of an infectious disease. It is not a signal that the virus is getting more virulent; it has nothing to do with severity; rather, it is a measure of geographical spread.

Thanks for posting this. The meaning of pandemic is easy to remember if one knows that the “pan” prefix is derived from the Greek word for all. However, the word pandemic is a misnomer insofar as a disease need not be everywhere to be so classified. Perhaps polydemic would have been a better choice :- )
