Robert, this article pretty much confirms that Christine Varney wants to follow in the footsteps of Neelie the Terrible.

Sure, Varney doesn't have as much power as that hag Kroes, but laws can change, especially when the executive and legislative branches in Washington are of the same mind.

The way the author of this opinion peice misrepresents the position of Varney/DOJ, misrepresents the EC vs. Intel case, and misrepresents the state of EC's antitrust policy, I'm not worried about whatever weight his opinion carries.

Examples of BS:

* The insinuation that the JD will target companies merely for their success at gaining large market share;

* His claim that anyone thinks that inadequate antitrust enforcement is the cause of the current recession;

* That somehow Bush's 11th hour muzzling of antitrust enforcement was anything other than an attempt to institutionalize a clearly failed deregulatory attitude towards the market;

* That the EC has not promoted clear guidelines as to what constitutes abuse of dominant position, and that they're 30 years behind the US;

* That Intel was fined simply "for giving discounts;"
