Phil, you say; "If the people that are charged with crimes are found guilty, they will suffer the consequences."

You then say; "The people that were sucked in by the scams will suffer the consequences too."

The above part of your post may be true but their is a big difference between "criminals" and "victims of those criminals/scams".

People breaking the law should and do suffer the consequences of their crimes.

Now people who get suckered by a scammer/criminal will suffer the consequences also as you say (even though it's not all their fault.) but they usually do and should get relief from the courts for those illegal acts against them.
That's why they have "LAWS", to protect innocent people.
Some of the smartest and best educated people in the country got scammed by Enron, the Maddoff's, etc.

So when you say; "None of them have anyone to blame but themselves" I have to disagree as to the "victims" of scams/criminals. The "Courts" put the blame on the "Lawbreakers" and they suffer the consequences of breaking the law.

I think that if
the people that are charged with crimes are found guilty

then
the people that were sucked in by the scams

will have several people to rightfully blame. Lawyers will magically appear to help them persue those rights. Ihub's deep pockets won't be safe either, imo.
