I remember you were the first who wrote of Sadr’s promise.
It is an audacity to say we are Americans implying sole ownership or that we do not share our continent with others. So also are the Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, all inhabitants of the two Americas Americans. We are United Statesians.

If that was a prophesy then the attack on Najaf was preconceived not by the United Statesians but rather Sadr and company. Thus the U.S. military has been drawn into a battle it only thinks it has engineered and as such only appears to be moving along behind Sadr.
I agree we have wanted to kill Sadr but have refrained from doing so because of the consequences.
The time of martyrdom for so high profile a ‘radical’ would be carefully chosen by the martyr. Probably as close to the election as possible as it will be the means by which the full force of the opposition is to be unleashed.
