Re:Download a movie

Mikemcduck, good points! We are a long way from the magic that Disney could bring to the Internet via downloading movies. However, it is, at least, thinking in the right direction.

There are a lot of other innovative ideas that Disney could produce, or announce, in the near term. I am still thinking there is much too much manpower working for DIG verses the results we have seen. Every other Internet entity is cutting back... except Disney. They must be working on something creative?!

The bottom line: Disney has been behind the curve and not very innovative since their Internet entry. They have hired some talented human beings that obviously can see that they've gotten their tails whooped. They are up to something!!?

Long term... something has got to give.

Re: radio reception with the fillings in my teeth.

Most .wav files are limited to 8kbps sampling, and most radio stations are 24kbit max streaming rate, if that. They don't do a thing for people used to 44kbps CD music.

If you have a recent Netscape browser, you probably have Winamp installed. Go to www.shoutcast.com and listen to one of the links marked for 96kbps streaming rates or better. (96, 128, 160, and 196 don't do anything to improve on 44kbps sampling, but they greatly reduce the rate of errors that affect the replay, provided you can actually get the max rate from your network link and all the hops in between.)

This is the sort of system that DIG should be looking at for streaming. Sending old-world sound and video out for money would be an astonishing mistake.

mikemcduck, you have some valid points....

about movies over the internet.......downloads, poor quality ect....but broadband and 3G is the answer to that problem, but the PC's will never compete with interactive TV (larger screens) kids might sit in front of a 17" screen and watch a movie, but teenagers and adults just will not do it.....

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/010116/ca_wink_co.html

dpb5, why would Dis even consider buying YHOO, there revenues are ads, and ad money is falling like a rock, besides they have to have some type merger or it's possible that in the next 2-5 years they will not exist, Dis didn't even know what to do with SEEK....IMO at that time SEEK could have been strong competition for YHOO.

OK meme, you own Dis & Dig, I own CHTR, we both want the most bang out of our buck, mabe charter can create a napster for movies.......then CHTR can cut out the Producer...... since we don't have a middle man....LOL

see ya at the movies
